Chocolate Agave Frosting

This frosting has the perfect amount of sweetness with a mild chocolate flavor. It is luscious and fluffy, just perfect for frosting your favorite layered cake or cupcakes! For frosting a dozen cupcakes, make a ½ batch of this recipe.

2 cups organic palm shortening
¾ cup cocoa powder
¼ cup arrowroot powder
1 cup agave nectar
4 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon almond flavoring (optional)
.
Place all ingredients into a mixing bowl and beat with an electric until light and fluffy. Spread onto cooled cupcakes. Source: http://www.NourishingMeals.com.

i think you could use margarine instead of the palm shortening.

That is tough with no dairy. You might be able to get a nice glaze without dairy, as that is in my view much easier than a frosting. Perhaps try allrecipes.com for a cooked dairy free frosting and see if you can find anything.

If you wanted one really badly, and have confectioners sugar (powdered) and shortening, (not oil, has to be solid) your powder of cocoa and some vanilla, you could combine that for a make shift butter cream frosting…it will lack some flavor, as butter is usually used in that recipe along with the shortening.

Happy Frosting :)

Here is a recipe that uses shortening as its primary ingredient instead of butter.

Although it calls for milk but I don’t see why you can’t substitute soy milk or even orange juice to replace the liquid content of this recipe. I’d add 1/2 cup of cocoa powder to start and then see how you like the taste.
